Eighteen years

The Grand Order, the hobbit kinship I'm in, celebrated its 18th anniversary this weekend. Here is our anniversary song!

About the song

As a kin member commented (hi Freddi!), the kinship is now legally old enough to drink in the UK. But as another kin member commented (hi Dia!), hobbits don't come of age until they're 33, so... We're in uncharted territory now.

Anyway, we had us a grand party, and grand parties need a party song. Here's this year's anniversary song, set to the merry beat of Erasure's Oh L'Amour (see video below). One kin member (hi Nimelia!) complained about the forge line, she's been waiting for 14 years or so now. Oh well. Perhaps when we turn 33?

Eighteen years

Eighteen years Eighteen years, with mathoms, oinkers and tea Eighteen years Eighteen years, and we're as grand as can be

Just up ahead, at the end of the lane There's an old sprawling hall, looking fit for a Thain Come join us inside, no reason to stall We'll party tonight, at Songburrow Hall

Eighteen years Eighteen years, with mathoms, oinkers and tea Eighteen years Eighteen years, and we're as grand as can be

A mouse runs around, he looks at your plate He's as quick as a flash, he got no time to wait He jumps from below, doesn't stop to say please He picks it up in his paws, eats his favourite cheese

Eighteen years Eighteen years, with lots of cheeses for George Eighteen years Eighteen years, and still no sign of a forge

All the cupboards are stuffed, the chests are filled to the brim With mathoms and books, their tales may be grim While old they may look, we cherish them all They're cared for and safe, at Songburrow Hall

Eighteen years Eighteen years, our parties get out of hand Eighteen years Eighteen years, the brandy cellars are grand...

Eighteen years Eighteen years, with lots of cheeses for George Eighteen years Eighteen years, and still no sign of a forge

Eighteen years Eighteen years, with mathoms, oinkers and tea Eighteen years Eighteen years, and we're as grand as can be

Oh L'Amour

And here is Erasure's original song
