Bouncing Bird: A LOTRO flying bug video

Who needs eagles anyway?

The flying bug

Recently, I tweeted a video about one of me favourite LOTRO bugs ever: The chair run/train bug. Back in the day, you could follow other players while seated in chairs, and they would drag you around the landscape. Cue lots of hilarious chair chains being hauled across Middle Earth.

Sadly, this issue has long been fixed, but this got me thinking of another favourite: The LOTRO flying bug. This is where you sometimes get stuck with the swimming animation (with splashing noises) while still on land. The grand thing is if this happens when you are high up in the landscape, since the swimming animation locks your height: You can't go below the set swimming level. Naturally, this allows you to soar above the land, looking down at the puny mortals below yer. Although it is a bother when yer trying to enter yer burrow to sleep afterwards.

Float like a butterfly

I have only experienced this bug once myself, two years ago in Celondim. Cue lots of squealing of joy and happiness as I flew around Ered Luin and The Shire. It has never happened to me again after this, and I haven't found a good way to reproduce the bug (if someone knows, please let me know). In-game, I blamed the trippy flight on some strange elluf mushrooms I ate just before...

Once I took to the air, I started my video recorder. Admittedly, I was somewhat excited, so the camera shot back and forth at the speed of a hummingbird's wings as I tried to take in the sights, so there were precious few long takes. Still, I dug out the old recording the other day and took a shot at splicing together a quick video of me flying adventures. And what better place to end a bouncy flight than in Bywater?
