Grand Walking Song

The Songburrow Strollers are five years old, and we celebrated last night with a musical walk through the Shire. Here is the "Grand Walking Song"!

First of all, a warm heartfelt thank yer, thank yer! to all who came to the concert and walk last night. It was sooo lovely to see all of yer there, both old friends and new acquaintances. We couldn't have asked fer a better audience fer our songs, or travel companions on the road. Strollery hugs to yer all!

Second, yer should all run over and read the words to Simbo's "Five Years" song, the true Strollers fifth anniversary song. It really is a lovely one.

Third, I made a lot of drawings from the walk and concerts last night. Yer can look at them all here! Come revisit the walk, the cheerful moods, the bouncing, the infamous visit to the pig sty and the numerous guest Strollers! Yay! Now then! Me own new song fer the night is best sung to the melody of "Tramps and Hawkers", a traditional folk song that has inspired many different versions. I particularly like the one by Luke Kelly and The Dubliners, see below. The version we use in-game has a slightly different rhythm and feel to it, but them's both grand!

I hadn't originally planned on writing a new song for the anniversary, given the busy days before the concert. Also, Simbo had us well covered with the lovely "Five Years" song linked above. Still, in the last hours before the concert, I started getting that itch ter jot down a few rhymes. A few simple words about a happy walk through the Shire, which soon found their ways into that lovely melody of "Tramps and Hawkers". So here yer go, our "Grand Walking Song". I hope yer like it!

Grand Walking Song

Come walk the Shire with us tonight Come join our merry crowd The sight of friendly faces dear Our hearts are happy and proud

We play our songs for yer all today And we hope yer all sing along For yer voices lift the saddest clouds And make us all feel strong

No fairer sight than rolling hills Where farmers work the land The roads have lain here fer centuries Made by our ancestors' hand

We share a meal of our finest food Then we start the music anew While yer feet are weary from the walk Yer dancing all night through

Come walk the Shire with us tonight Come join our merry crowd The sight of friendly faces dear Our hearts are happy and proud

We play our songs for yer all today And we hope yer all sing along For yer voices lift the saddest clouds And make us all feel strong For yer voices lift the saddest clouds And make us all feel strong
