A jarful or two

Going ter sleep can be hard fer any hobbit, especially if he or she haven't had supper yet. Even then, there are hazards, I say. Dangers! Eek!! So here's a little song about that!

Best sung to the tune of Jessie, the Flower of Dunblane, below in a version by Kenneth McKellar. Me own version of the song was first performed at the Green Dragon last night.

Be good ter yer dog and mouse, and be careful where yer eat before bedtime! Enjoy!

Yer can also see the lyrics to me other songs right here! Enjoy them too!

A Jarful or Two

When the nighttime approaches I go to the larder Ter find me some food that will help me to sleep Me dog sits behind me as I do the cooking What falls on the floor surely is hers ter keep How grand is a pie with a savoury filling How fine is a pot full of herby lamb stew But sweeter and finer and dear ter me belly Are honey oat biscuits, a jarful or two But sweeter and finer, aye sweeter and finer Are honey oat biscuits, a jarful or two

I sit down by me table and munch on me supper While reading me letters from friends far and near The wood on me fire it cracks and it sparkles And there in the corner me mouse jumps with fear I toss it some cheese but it wrinkles its whiskers I toss it some bread but it squeaks all night through 'cause sweeter and finer and dear ter its belly Are honey oat biscuits, a jarful or two 'cause sweeter and finer, aye sweeter and finer Are honey oat biscuits, a jarful or two

I blow out the lights and I walk to the bedside Me blanket is warm and me dog fast asleep But try as I might I'm unable ter join her It keeps me awake even though I count sheep It itches all over when I hug me pillow It itches all over again and anew Though tasty and sweet, there are crumbs in me blanket From honey oat biscuits, a jarful or two With crumbs in me blanket, aye crumbs in me blanket From honey oat biscuits, a jarful or two
