Good things come from baking, cake is grand on grey days!
About the song
A song I wrote just before yule last year, mostly because I love the song it is based on ("I Saved the World Today" by The Eurythmics, from their pretty grand final album, Peace). Us badgers of the brandy persuasion play it sometimes, and I figured it could use some words. I always found the melody somewhat mellow, but also hopeful. Once I nailed down the starting line involving cake in the chorus, the rest of the words came along more or less by themselves.
Similarities to other grey skies/sadness/friendship songs I have written over the years are purely unintented, of course... (coughs)
Should yer want the lyrics to more of me songs, have a look in me songbook!
Lyrics: I baked a cake today
When the rain comes pouring down Heavy drops that make you frown From sadness I will open up my door Talk of the things we both adore Our gladness
Hey hey I baked a cake today One with berries, nuts and cream And I put it on this tray Come and have a slice with me We'll chase the skies away Make light from grey
Long the roads we have to walk Hardships in the shadows stalk Surrender But let me walk this road with you We will see the journey through Together
Hey hey I baked a cake today One with berries, nuts and cream And I put it on this tray Come and have a slice with me We'll chase the skies away Make light from grey
Light from grey
I will walk with you Today
Hey hey I baked a cake today One with berries, nuts and cream And I put it on this tray Come and have a slice with me We'll chase the skies away Make light from grey
Hey hey I baked a cake today One with berries, nuts and cream And I put it on this tray Come and have a slice with me We'll chase the skies away Make light from... Make light from...
I saved the world today
Here is the original song, as performed by The Eurythmics. Enjoy!
