The Shire Home Song

I wrote another song about the Shire. I should make a career of it, or somet!

About the song

Best sung to "Devils and Dust" by Bruce Springsteen (see below), this was another 30-minute challenge where I try to wrap up song lyrics in half an hour or less. It took closer to 50 minutes in the end. Oh well...

For more of me songs, have a look in me songbook.

Lyrics: The Shire Home Song

Feel the late summer breeze Sweeping cross the field Leaves alight in dusk Golden wonders unsealed

Pick a late lonely berry Juicy sweetness from the mire Wonders never letting up Home in the Shire

Roads will lead you onward Past familiar sights By tidy fences and farmland Houses neat and small Warm and welcoming lights Go in and greet the others there All wait beside the fire You're home in the Shire

Long ago this land was bare Empty naked plain Nothing but despair A home of ash and pain

But a lonely tender sapling Made the gloomy night expire Good living made its home Home in the shire

Roads will lead you onward Past familiar sights By tidy fences and farmland Houses neat and small Warm and welcoming lights Go in and greet the others there All wait beside the fire You're home in the Shire All greeting you friendly You're home in the Shire

They say these lands are blessed No more will darkness reign From that sapling of old Hobbits made their domain

So pick that late lonely berry Its juice will set you afire Wonders all around You're home in the Shire

Roads will lead you onward Past familiar sights By tidy fence and farmland Neat houses small Warm welcoming lights Go in and greet the others there All wait beside the fire You're home in the Shire All greeting you friendly You're home in the Shire
