I am a mighty pirate

Pirates on the Brandywine? Sure! With the Grand Order Acting Troupe, anything is possible! Here are some pictures and lyrics from our latest play!

The Grand Order Acting Troupe (GOAT) premiered "Yarrr, arrr me hearty" last night! This was our fifth play and first-ever musical! With musical support from the Brandy Badgers, the Grand Order music collective, the play wanted ter tell the story of the excitement of the unknown, felt even by hobbits living in the Shire.

To play or not to play

Work on the play took a year, after Patula came up with the initial idea January last year. Tula also made the first draft of the script, while Simbo wrote most of the lyrics for the songs. Meself, I tinkered with music files and added some script polish. So once again it was a team effort by them GOAT's, which made it all the more grand and lovely. And it was extra fun ter drag them Brandy Badgers into the mix, so many thanks ter Rubellita, Pennyroyal, Sevelda, Nimelia and Tibba fer helping us with the songs!

A lot of people came ter see the play, which was both grand and scary! The scariness was amplified after one of our actors disconnected just before the start and spent near 15 minutes getting back into the game. That our musical maestro of the night ran into some snags with the Songbook plugin didn't help steady them nerves either. Add some lag, and, well... But GOATs and Badgers are resilient creatures, and soon the play was well underway.

A warm thank yer to everyone who showed up ter watch our whimsical piece of entertainment. It was grand fun making it, we hope yer had some fun watching it too! Hooray!

Oh, and there may be, may be a recording of the play. We'll see!

Pirate songs

While Simbo did the most work on them songs, I wrote one meself, the middle one called "I am a mighty pirate". It is based oh the Major-General Song from Pirates of Penzance .

An oft-parodied tune, I found it could work good in our play. We were looking fer a slightly zany song, conveying the adventurous dreams of an excitable, yet slightly ignorant young hobbit lass. Hopefully yer will like it! Feel free ter sing along!

I am a mighty pirate

I am a mighty pirate and I sail upon the Brandywine I swing my trusty cutlass so the hobbits run and hide and whine I have no table manners and whenever I sit down to dine I chew and spit and yell and burp and cover all my food with brine

I look for treasure everywhere from north and south to east and west Although the world is dangerous I sail my ship with zeal and zest I chase away the giant fish, they wear a tent when they get dressed They guard the secret entrance to a gold and silver treasure chest

They guard the secret entrance to a gold and silver treasure chest They guard the secret entrance to a gold and silver treasure chest They guard the secret entrance to a gold and silver treasure laden chest

The treasure chest is empty so I go and fight a billy goat Much taller than the mountains and with horns protruding from his throat Although the world is dangerous and hobbits run and hide and whine I am a mighty pirate and I sail upon the Brandywine

Although the world is dangerous and hobbits run and hide and whine I am a mighty pirate and I sail upon the Brandywine

The badgers are belligerent and seem forever furious They carry bows and arrows and their aim is quite notorius They travel to the moon at night in transportation curious No matter what you say to them their actions are injurious

The bears are large and noisy but surprisingly intelligent They write the finest poetry of matters mostly innocent They run around in garments green, their hats are quite magnificent They dance into the fields and try to court the nearest oliphaunt

They dance into the fields and try to court the nearest oliphaunt They dance into the fields and try to court the nearest oliphaunt They dance into the fields and try to court the nearest oily oliphaunt

But there into the world I go both plucky and adventury I look for food and drink that hail from ancient hobbit history Although the world is dangerous and hobbits run and hide and whine I am a mighty pirate and I sail upon the Brandywine

Although the world is dangerous and hobbits run and hide and whine I am a mighty pirate and I sail upon the Brandywine

The field mice chase the cats with glee and howl upon the moon at night The shrews have wings and fly around, but still they are afraid of height The sheep bring out their bagpipes and they play until the day is bright The fields are blue, the sky is green and everything is out of sight

The longshanks eat their soup with forks and gnaw on ancient dirty roots And every week they celebrate their birthday wearing flower suits And when they go to sleep all of their dreams are seen as absolutes Their pies are all horrendous and they drink their tea from smelly boots

Their pies are all horrendous and they drink their tea from smelly boots Their pies are all horrendous and they drink their tea from smelly boots Their pies are all horrendous and they drink their tea from silly smelly boots
