The Fair Brandywine

Spring is getting nearer, the weather is slightly warmer, and some day soon young hobbits will start walking hand in hand in them flowery fields by the river. This calls fer a spring song!

Best sung to the tune of Rose of Mooncoin, here in a lovely version by Johnny McEvoy. I wrote me own word to the tune a couple of years back, but I have tinkered a little with the rhythm now, so them better match the abc file I use.

I hope yer like it!

The Fair Brandywine

He walks down the hillside where the daffodils grow Along a faint path to the valley below By the water he smiles as the sun starts ter shine On the bounds of the Shire flows the fair Brandywine

He often comes here in the first days of spring When the lilies return and the thrush start ter sing Where the time passes slow as he waits fer a sign He sits on the banks of the fair Brandywine

He leans back and ponders on stories of old A century back, when winter was cold The lands suffered hard in the winter's decline And the wolves crossed the ice on the fair Brandywine

No wolves are here now, yet he sighs from unease He eagerly waits fer the evening breeze Will she be here this year with her smile sweet and fine Will she meet him down here by the fair Brandywine

His heart beating fast as the day turns ter night When a welcoming song fills his heart with delight Tears of joy as she hugs him, her arms him entwine She says she's in love by the fair Brandywine Says she's in love by the fair Brandywine
