Burrow upon the Hill

There are tales of riches in the Shire, not least of those that master Bilbo Baggins were said ter bring back from his adventures. Just be careful if yer run into the present owner of his burrow!

Another song! One which somehow involves a mean umbrella-wielding hobbit over in the Hobbiton area. Although I bet I would be somewhat cross too if I had hobbits trying ter burrow into me burrow. Some try at times, looking fer me secret biscuits stash...

Anyways! This one is best sung to the melody of Spancil Hill, here in a nice version by Christy Moore and Shane McGowan. Me own version was first performed at the Green Dragon January 25th 2013.

Burrow Upon the Hill

A summer night in Hobbiton Two hobbits were passing by No visit to the Ivy Bush No ale them stopped to buy Them crossed the bridge with utmost care Them tiptoed past the mill With stealthy looks them walked towards the burrow upon the Hill

With picks and spades and satchels deep Them hobbits were quite a sight And as them passed the Party Tree Them stayed well out of the light For both had heard the tales of old Their dreams would be fulfilled With gold them soon would find beneath the burrow upon the Hill

Them started digging in the soil Them chopped at the earthen walls And soon they found their passage to The inner burrow halls But oh, there were a sound in there It gave them both a chill The sound kept coming from within the burrow upon the Hill

A clicking folding scraping noise An omen of ill ter come A shadow creeping closer still It made them feel all numb A twack, a shout and cries fer "MA!" An angry howl so shrill Them hobbits wept and tried ter leave the burrow upon the Hill

A summer night in Hobbiton Two hobbits came running by Them dove into the Ivy bush And ales them had ter buy With marks upon their frightened brows Them both were smacked with skill Umbrellas were a danger in the burrow upon the hill Umbrellas were a danger in the burrow upon the hill
