This is a calendar of hobbit events on the LOTRO Laurelin server, typically events in the Shire and hosted by hobbits. If you have events you want added to the calendar, send me a letter!
All times in the calendar are given in current London/UK time. The LOTRO servertime (Boston/US East Coast time) is usually 5 hours behind London time. To see the servertime while in-game, just type /servertime. If you are unsure what London time is in your current time zone, you can use this time zone converter.

The Grand Order is currently preparing a journey from The Shire to Fornost. This will naturally be a long, slow journey, with some hardships involved. Who knows what food they serve out there! However, if we stay together, I am sure we can get there safe and sound. Even back again too!
We also welcome other adventurous hobbits along for the journey. Don’t worry if yer waistband is too small for the areas we might visit. We’ll do our best to take good care of yer all! Just don’t tell yer friends and family that yer plan to be all adventurous, now. Surely yer don’t want them to believe that yer are peculiar or something? Didn’t think so!
Remember to dress up all proper for a long walk into dangerous lands! Bring good hobbity cheer as well – I am not sure there is much of that outside the Shire. Prepare campfires, food and a trusty walking stick! And join us on the road towards Fornost!

This is a Hobbit Historical Field Trip over a whole weekend. As with our previous field trips, we’ll go to a place of hobbit historical interest and share tales and stories about what happened there, to learn more about hobbit lore. However, as usual our lore scholars may tell the tales with a definite hobbits eye at things, so 100% lore perfection is unlikely.
Additionally, this is a roleplaying journey, providing social adventurous fun on the road. This means slow-travelling by walking or slow pony riding:
The schedule for this field trip is as follows:
- Friday March 3: Brockenborings field trip party (this replaces Green Dragon Friday this evening). Meet at the Plough and Stars inn.
- Saturday March 4: Travel day, from Brockenborings via Evendim to Fornost. Meet at the Brockenborings stable master.
- Sunday March 5: Tales and stories day, in Fornost. Meet at the quest hub camp inside Fornost.
The events start at 7:30PM UK (2:30PM servertime) all days.
During the travel day, we will slowly walk towards our end destination. There may be food breaks on the road, possibly with some lore about the lands we pass through. Once we reach our destination, there will be more food and tales. We won’t go the full immersion route (among other things, we might travel even if it is dark). However, it is good if you:
- Dress somewhat realistically for a journey out or bounds.
- Don’t plan to set up a 10-player music band during the breaks
- Won’t mind walking towards our locations (no swift-travels here)
Also, please follow the Laurelin RP policy, and remember that no OOC stuff should take place in the /say channel. Just speak of the things that would be on the minds of hobbits in Middle Earth, and you’ll be OK!
We particularly encourage low-level characters to join in, that’s just fun! We’ll do our best to keep yer safe as we enter higher-level zones.
While this is a hobbit-themed event, others can join in on Saturday and Sunday should they have a particular interest in hobbitness.

Please note the guidelines for the event:
1) Participate! This event is only monitored by persons, not run. Nobody is there to entertain you all night long. Having said that, some regulars are usually there to move things along. But please bring your own input! Its jolly important that this never ends up being a one-hobbit show.
2) Prepare! Try to bring a riddle, a poem, a song, a short rhyme, some juicy gossip or the likes. If you don’t use it, or if it is not time to use it (sometimes its just not possible to squeeze everything into one night), there’s always next week!
3) Live the Shire! This event follows the lore in that it tries to be a lively hobbit night at the inn. Keep chat in-character and avoid forced emotes, fireworks, apple throwing/snowballs, etc. Also, please try to keep entertainment (songs, stories, rhymes, poems and so on) in tune with the game world, suitable for hobbits living in the Shire. With regard to .abc music, try to steer away from well-known pop/rock songs and the latest top 10 chart contents. Less Lady Gaga! More folk music! Reels, jigs, waltzes, hornpipes and the likes are always popular and will soon have the hobbits dancing!
4) Play a hobbit (or dwarf)! This is a hobbit preferred event. If men and elves wishes to attend this night, please roll a hobbit or ‘travelin’ dwarf. The Shire, although blessed with the ‘odd’ outsider, was not the ‘in’ place to be seen if you were a man-folk or (especially) an elf. Try out the hobbit RP for size instead, you know you want to! You will find you get MORE RP this way!
5) Enjoy yourself! Green Dragon Friday reserves the right to be as flexible, as quiet, as busy, as chaotic, as peaceful, as jubilant as it just happens to be on the night. Few things are planned, most just happen. The whole point is for you lot to meet each others’ characters, chat about whatever you’ve been up to IC’ly, have a good laugh with friends. It’s the people that make the night. If you’re the first to arrive, don’t run off! More will follow, they always do!

Time flies, when you’re having fun, the saying goes. And we must have had a lot of fun, since it’s again that time of the year to commemorate the Battle of the Greenfields and it’s Hobbit hero, the one who singlehandedly beat the Goblin Chief. I’m talking ofcourse about Bullroarer Took Day!
We celebrate this hero’s brave deeds each year on March 17. And this year, that’s a Friday! So I conferred with GDF’s moderator, Miss Lina Willowwood, and we decided to move Green Dragon Friday to Brockenborings again.
So next week, on Friday the 17th, instead of to the Green Dragon Inn, we invite you to come to the Bullroarer Took statue in Brockenborings.
Proceedings will be like on a normal Friday at the Green Dragon: There will be a host (me) and entertainment from you, the visitors! There will be News as well, ofcourse.
As for the entertainment, it would be nice to have songs, poems, stories related to Bullroarer Took and/or the Greenfields battle. It’s okay to perform last year’s dedicated songs and poems again, you do not absolutely have to write new material, but doing the latter can count on much appreciation, ofcourse.
Another thing to think of is the traditional “wearing of the green” on this day. We ask you alll to wear green clothes, cloaks, hats and what have you.
Did I mention the toasting yet? Traditionally on Bullroarer Took Day, many a toast will be made to him and this year there will be Brockenborings Brandy to be had for that! It has quite a kick, so modesty is advised!

Bullroarer Took Day is Lotro’s implementation of St. Patrick’s Day, hence the date and the wearing of the green.
Try to keep the music related to that: Irish, Celtic is always nice, but especially on this day!
If you have news or would like to perform, please send a /tell to Peppy, not Lina this time. Try to limit your performance to about 10 minutes. Less is good too.
The Greenbrambles are the house band and they may exceed the 10 minute limit and fill gaps in the program (and so perform more than once if needed).
Concert with the Overhill Otters! In Overhill! Come to Overhill!
The spring is finally here! We feel it in the water, we feel it in the earth, and we smell it in the air. Time to step out from your burrow and take a stroll in the woods! There, you might see all kinds of critters celebrate the spring. And if your stroll takes you to Overhill, you might see how two otters celebrate the springtime with music and song.
The Overhill Otters, Miss Pycella and Master Mermund, are planning to give a small concert in no otter place than Overhill where they both grew up. They welcome all their friends and Shire folks to join the fun around the small pond in the village centre. The Otters will play some of their favorite songs for anyone who passes by. Oh, and there will be some food and drink as well! At the same time, The Otters will celebrate their friendship and the last days of Miss Pycella’s tweens – in the end of March, she will already be 33 years old!
So, let your feet take you to Overhill on Tuesday 21st March, at 7.30 bells ((UK time)), to the small pond next to the village centre.

Short version:
- Be a hobbit!
- Be in-character, talk about things belonging in Middle-Earth. That also goes for entertainment!
- Avoid forced emotes, unnatural pets inside, spamming with emotes, etc.!
- Take part, be active!
- Try avoid multi-boxing!
- Keep news and events relevant for Shire hobbits!
- Acknowledge what others are doing, spread out if things are too busy!
Longer version:
- While travelling dwarves are welcome to stop at the inn for a refreshing ale during their travels, we ask that elves and menfolk do not attend the event. Men and elves were rarely (if ever) seen in the Shire villages, and especially not the inns. However, if yer have quests to do at the inn, by all means come inside to finish them
- Be in-character – be a hobbit! Keep player interactions (chats, emotes) and entertainment in-character, basically by talking about the things that hobbits in Middle-Earth would. Don’t discuss real-life modern-day things, game mechanics, etc.
- Avoid using forced emotes, setting off fireworks inside, bringing pets that wouldn’t belong in an inn, throwing 3000 snowballs, emote spamming, etc.
- Be active and engage with the others. It is better to participate than to just stand around waiting for others to entertain you (however, feel free to come observe things the first few times).
- Avoid multi-boxing with lots of alts. Yes, we know that you love to pull off that fat sound of a many-musician band. However, when the room is full of similarly-clad robots marching in line (if they move at all), who don’t respond when you talk to them, things get rather creepy and the immersion we look for is often ruined.
- Entertainers are very welcome! Just sign up with the hobbit hosting the event, preferably by a /tell. Note that we absolutely love solo bards/performers – a lone lute-player is often better suited for the inn setting than a huge band. Also note that we absolutely love other kinds of entertainment than music: Poems, stories, riddles, the latest news from the Shire… lovely! If you want to play music, it is grand if yer aim for a folksy hobbity vibe, with reels, jigs, waltzes, hornpipes and the likes.
- Gossip and news is very welcome! This helps bring life to the event and the roleplaying in the Shire. Just remember to keep things in-character. Related to events: We generally don’t advertise events held on other servers, events not of hobbit interest, events not held in the Shire or events not of a roleplaying character.
- The inn can sometimes be busy, especially near the entertainment fireplace. It is good if you keep this in mind when interacting with others, go into crowds to talk to someone, etc. Some examples: If someone is reciting a stirring poem from the battle of Greenfields, it is probably good to wait a bit to run up and say hello to them. If someone is regaling the crowd with an exciting tale, it can undermine the mood if you move two feet away from them and talk about things not related to the tale at all. If you’re doing a deep discussion with just one other person there, it could make sense to move away from the busiest part of the inn, for instance to the bar or another corner. This is mostly a matter of acknowledging what is going on at the inn and making an attempt of not undermining the roleplaying efforts of others.
Additionally, we ask that participants follow the roleplaying rules and policy for Laurelin, with regard to player names, chat behaviour and harassment.
Lastly, while the above may sound like a long list of rules, don’t worry too much! Them hobbits are a friendly and tolerant lot, eager to welcome new visitors to the inn. See yer there!
