Location: Green Dragon Inn, Bywater, Laurelin server
Weekly hobbit gathering at the Green Dragon inn in Bywater, running ever since May 18 2008. This is an event for and by hobbits, although a few visiting traveling dwarves are always welcome. It is also a 100% in-character event, so don’t go talking about things not belonging in Middle Earth!
Come along for songs, dances, poetry, tales, riddles, news and much grand roleplaying! And do offer yer own entertainment, if yer like!
At other times over the year, GDF will move to other inns in the Shire. The new years party is usually held at the Plough and Stars in Brockenborings, while we always escape Bywater when the mayor hosts the Farmer’s faire in the late summer.
Event guidelines:
Green Dragon Friday is an in-character roleplaying event aiming to replicate a lively hobbit night at the inn. We try to enable a healthy lively hobbit roleplayer community here on Laurelin. To help us do this, please follow these guidelines:
Short version:
- Be a hobbit!
- Be in-character, talk about things belonging in Middle-Earth. That also goes for entertainment!
- Avoid forced emotes, unnatural pets inside, spamming with emotes, etc.!
- Take part, be active!
- Try avoid multi-boxing!
- Keep news and events relevant for Shire hobbits!
- Acknowledge what others are doing, spread out if things are too busy!
Longer version:
- While travelling dwarves are welcome to stop at the inn for a refreshing ale during their travels, we ask that elves and menfolk do not attend the event. Men and elves were rarely (if ever) seen in the Shire villages, and especially not the inns. However, if yer have quests to do at the inn, by all means come inside to finish them
- Be in-character – be a hobbit! Keep player interactions (chats, emotes) and entertainment in-character, basically by talking about the things that hobbits in Middle-Earth would. Don’t discuss real-life modern-day things, game mechanics, etc.
- Avoid using forced emotes, setting off fireworks inside, bringing pets that wouldn’t belong in an inn, throwing 3000 snowballs, emote spamming, etc.
- Be active and engage with the others. It is better to participate than to just stand around waiting for others to entertain you (however, feel free to come observe things the first few times).
- Avoid multi-boxing with lots of alts. Yes, we know that you love to pull off that fat sound of a many-musician band. However, when the room is full of similarly-clad robots marching in line (if they move at all), who don’t respond when you talk to them, things get rather creepy and the immersion we look for is often ruined.
- Entertainers are very welcome! Just sign up with the hobbit hosting the event, preferably by a /tell. Note that we absolutely love solo bards/performers – a lone lute-player is often better suited for the inn setting than a huge band. Also note that we absolutely love other kinds of entertainment than music: Poems, stories, riddles, the latest news from the Shire… lovely! If you want to play music, it is grand if yer aim for a folksy hobbity vibe, with reels, jigs, waltzes, hornpipes and the likes.
- Gossip and news is very welcome! This helps bring life to the event and the roleplaying in the Shire. Just remember to keep things in-character. Related to events: We generally don’t advertise events held on other servers, events not of hobbit interest, events not held in the Shire or events not of a roleplaying character.
- The inn can sometimes be busy, especially near the entertainment fireplace. It is good if you keep this in mind when interacting with others, go into crowds to talk to someone, etc. Some examples: If someone is reciting a stirring poem from the battle of Greenfields, it is probably good to wait a bit to run up and say hello to them. If someone is regaling the crowd with an exciting tale, it can undermine the mood if you move two feet away from them and talk about things not related to the tale at all. If you’re doing a deep discussion with just one other person there, it could make sense to move away from the busiest part of the inn, for instance to the bar or another corner. This is mostly a matter of acknowledging what is going on at the inn and making an attempt of not undermining the roleplaying efforts of others.
Additionally, we ask that participants follow the roleplaying rules and policy for Laurelin, with regard to player names, chat behaviour and harassment.
Lastly, while the above may sound like a long list of rules, don’t worry too much! Them hobbits are a friendly and tolerant lot, eager to welcome new visitors to the inn. See yer there!

After going through a strange mist for two days, the hobbits finally managed to pass through it. However, there was another obstacle ahead – steep hills.
But with the power of nagging and BREAKFASTS (yes, more than one), the hobbits managed to climb them as well and entered Eregion. There, they turned to the closest settlement of the area – Gwingris. There, they had their next breakfast, and Saelo decided it was time to have a nap, as a sensible hobbit would have a nap between breakfast and elevenses. This caused Lina to nag, but she was one of the fastest sleepers.
However, when they woke up, Saelo was missing…
Time: 6:00 PM ((UK Time, 1 PM server time))
Location: Gwingris, Eregion
About the leg:
There will be no leader this time, as there is no specific destination to reach for. You will be free to wander around and look for Saelo. He does not have any specific location either, so, it is up to hobbits’ imaginations and how well they know Saelo. Willow/Willowes will be informed about all the details of this leg, and they will provide the necessary information as you reach her.General:
The initial aim of this journey is visiting Maur Tulhau in Enedwaith, while stopping in different settlements on the way. The whole journey will be spread through a long time span, and each leg will take place bi-weekly, either on Saturday or on Sunday (it will be announced beforehand every time).
There is no fixed length of legs, meaning we can freely get distracted by stuff on the road for any reason, without rushing to make it to the end goal of the leg. We also might spend some time there (probably a day), doing some fun stuff.
There is no level requirement to join the event, there will be enough hobbits to protect you. ))
The October OAKS concert is with Die fertigen Schlusen. Details in the Bramblebury Gazette.
Date: Saturday October 22
Time: 8PM UK time / 3PM servertime
Location: Oldfurlong, Town Square, Shire Homesteads

The Lazy Hobbits Club goes fishing… in a scary place!
At their last meet-up, the members of the Lazy Hobbits Club managed to find some mushrooms and even an inn to rest after their efforts. This time, they feel lazier and plan to go fishing. And napping while fishing. What could be a better place for both napping and fishing than a dark forest where no one bothers you? According to the Bucklanders, there’s an (in)famous napping spot by the forest stream. Sounds like it’s worth checking out!
Date: Sunday 23rd October
Time: 6:30PM (UK, 1:30PM server time), duration approx. one hour
Location: The Old Forest Gate, Buckland
We will start from the Old Forest Gate and walk through the forest, stopping at a couple spots by the forest stream for fishing. It might be a bit scary, but do not worry, the big waistbandsize hobbits will shoo the bats away. Since we are going fishing, please bring yer fishing rod with you. Better not bring an axe. The locals say it’s unwise to bring those to the Old Forest. Axes are not good for fishing anyway.
OOC: The Lazy Hobbit Club gatherings are recurring hobbit roleplaying events with a loose theme/plan, e.g. helping NPCs, fishing, searching for lost farm animals and so on, where we let room for improvisation and surprises. All hobbits are welcome, but also lazy travelling dwarves can join if they wish. Please note that this event starts earlier than usual. For this event, bring a fishing rod and be prepared to fish. Contact Pycella if you have questions.

The spooky season reaches the Green Dragon Inn!
The days are getting darker and scarier. Every creak in your burrow makes you spill your tea, the wind howls like Maggot’s dogs, and the freshly-baked pie on your windowsill vanishes mysteriously… There’s only one way to shake off the shivers. Be scary yourself in good company!
Date: Friday October 28
Time: 7:30PM (UK, 2:30PM server time)
Location: Green Dragon Inn, Bywater
On 28th October, we will have a special spooky Green Dragon Night. Dress up in your scariest outfit and make the others shiver! Scary tales, poems, songs, riddles, and other entertainment is also most welcome on this night. If you have entertainment to offer, please whisper to Miss Pycella during the night.
Come and scare off the scary spirits at the Dragon on the last Friday of October!
OOC: Usual Green Dragon Friday guidelines apply, so this is a roleplaying event for hobbits, with travelling (and scary) dwarves welcome.

Bring your own boos to our Harvestmath-themed concert in Wistmead! This is a laid-back evening where we’ll play some of our scarier tunes.
Do dress up in your best frightening outfits!
OOC details:
This is a hobbit roleplaying event, though we welcome all comers along.
The concert will take place in Wistmead when the Harvestmath festival is live. In order to get into the same layer as the band, please send an in-game tell (/tell) to one of the listed officers.

And travellers, now, within that valley
Through the red-litten window see
Vast forms, that move fantastically
To a discordant Melody
While, like a ghastly rapid river
Through the pale door
A hideous throng rush out forever
And laugh – But smile no more
The nights are drawing in, and crops are almost in from the fields.
Yonder trees are shedding their leaves and the air is turning crisp.
Tis the time soon fer pumkins and ghosts, which means…
