The 15th anniversary song!
About the song
Last night we celebrated the 15th anniversary of Green Dragon Friday, a hobbit roleplaying event on the LOTRO Laurelin server. Such an occasion needs a song, and here is this year’s anniversary song! In-game, it is performed by The Brandy Badgers.
I pondered long and hard on what to call the song. Well, not really. It was written rather quickly in the morning before the party. Not too many in-jokes this time, but some always spill onto my works. Eh he… Else, the song sort of describes the feelings I had when I visited the event for the first time, fourteen years ago. It really was grand stumbling upon lots of hobbits having a good time together.
This is best sung to 80’s pop-rock classic “St. Elmo’s Fire” by John Parr, a song that might figure high on lists of one-hit wonders. The film wasn’t much good, but the song has long been a favourite!
Green Dragon Friday
Friday night, tired after many hours of work
On yer own, slowly walking through the misty murk
Yer long for company, a warm and friendly smile
Don’t want to be alone, it has been a while
Up ahead, merry laughter beckons through the night
Through the door, drawn by rays of warm inviting light
A crowd is by the bar, drinking local brew
Then someone smiles at you, and the rest do too
Join the loud and lively banter, then a bard begins to play
All the locals flowing like a stream down the hallway
Crowded dancing near the fire, drinking long into the night
Going on for fifteen years, it’s Green Dragon Friday
Green Dragon Friday
Local news, gossip, grumpy gripes, and words that rhyme
Through the night, everyone is talking all the time
And it’s all too much, then you understand
No-one is left alone, and this makes yer feel grand
Join the loud and lively banter, then a bard begins to play
All the locals flowing like a stream down the hallway
Crowded dancing near the fire, drinking long into the night
Going on for fifteen years, it’s Green Dragon Friday
Chat about both pie and biscuits, sing of summer nights
If we hobbits stick together, all will be right
All will be right
The seasons they turn
The time moves so fast
But here we return
The grand times will last
Barmy greets yer warmly welcome, as do all the hobbits here
There’s a local saying here that Friday brings cheer
Crowded dancing near the fire, drinking long into the night
Going on for fifteen years, it’s Green Dragon Friday
Join the loud and lively banter, then a bard begins to play
All the locals flowing like a stream down the hallway
Crowded dancing near the fire, drinking long into the night
Going on for fifteen years, it’s Green Dragon Friday
Let us raise a glass together, drinking long into the day
All the locals spilling lots of ale down the hallway
Friday, Friday night
Come and join the spilling
Green Dragon Friday
St. Elmo’s Fire
