A song about that lovely drink – ale!
About the Song
I wanted to write a new song for the Moonshine Party on Laurelin last night, which was an ale-related party if I ever saw one (and a grand one too!). Rather than writing yer average merry drinking song, I tried for something a bit more mellow. Enter John Denver with “Annie’s Song”, which is about as sappy as yer can get without chopping down a sappy spring sapling.
Of all places I heard it in the movie “Free Fire”, which is about a shootout lasting ca. 90 minutes. Good fun and an interesting place to hear this song in particular. ‘s a gentle melody and a fine swayer, so below yer can find me words to the tune.
Should yer want the lyrics to more of me songs, have a look in me songbook!
Sweet Shire Ale
A young lad goes searching
for a fair forest maiden
one that dances with flowers
in a green summer vale
When his quest meets with failure
he seeks comfort and pleasure
that drink we all cherish
the sweet Shire ale
An inn filled with laughter
when the work day is over
taking gossip as gospel
when the true tales are stale
Raising glasses together
wishing joy for each other
that drink we all cherish
the sweet Shire ale
No life is all cheerful
hardships hide in the future
no-one knows if the morning
will let sunshine prevail
Let us toast for a bright day
wishing joy for each other
that drink we all cherish
the sweet Shire ale
