Simbo has made a plugin useful for poets and singers alike! Here is the first version of “Poetical” – enjoy!
Please note that Poetical has now gotten a static page, where any new versions will be released. Further comments on the plugin should be added there, since comments on this blog post have been closed. Please visit the Poetical page here!
Poetical is a plug-in designed to store the words of your favourite poems (and songs), and allows you to recite them a line at a time using a single button press.
Nice.. i will test it next week at our rehearsal…Good work ;)
Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
Simbo, old boy, I could kiss you! In fact, I will have Pipes do that when he sees you. Just for the popout feature.
Greedy as I am, would it be possible to have the popout re-sizable?
Hullo!
The popout should be already re-sizable! Just click and hold the bottom-right hand corner, and drag it to the size you want. (I shall look at doing a UI tweak to make this more obvious, I think)
And tell Pipes not to worry about the kiss…..
Ah yes, just found it, I think it requires precision! I shall now ask instead for the impossible (and hope I’m wrong) – when resizing, could the text word-wrap?
Never satisfied, me!
Good job, Simbo.
Coming soon (Well, maybe next month)….. Poetical 1.2 featuring word-wrapping of lines!
Word-wrapping could be troublesome, alas! (Well, wrapping it onto the next line is simple, but automatically making the block of text high enough so that the wrapped text doesn’t then disappear off the bottom is the tricky thing).
I have, however, found the bug with the pop-out where it can’t be resized, which I am guessing is what happened for you (It occurs when you resize the main window before you open the pop-out!). That will be fixed in the next release.(Hopefully this weekend!)
Great work, Simbo. Glad I could help with the out-of-bounds stuff! Now I’m busy transferring all my old Lyrical files…
Oh this is brilliant, as brilliant as a new newt in spring! Thank you so much :-)
I’m working on producing a small play on Landroval and, boy, is this a great improvement on Lyrical for that purpose. In fact, I’d been considering writing something similar myself. Thanks so much for sharing it.
An idea for a possible small improvement: Poetical shows my lines in white and the %ed out lines in grey, which is great. An option to show the %ed out line just above my next line in some other color (maybe red?) would be good for theater (and possibly other stuff) since that’s the ‘cue’ I’m watching for someone else to say or do, so I know when it’s my turn.
Thanks for your comment! I’ll see what I can do! *Winks*
I wonder if there is some way to make directories or folders in Poetical? I didn’t use them in Lyrical, with the result that my song list got so long that it covered the screen top to bottom and I couldn’t see the first or last songs on the list, or select them to read. Is there a way to avoid that here?
Ah, yes, I think I may have been one of those who motivated the adding of folders to Lyrical – my song list was so long I had the same issue you have, with no way to showing top or bottom songs.
However, this should be no problem in Poetical, since,
a) The song/poem list is scrollable (also, the window is resizeable)
b) You can add tags to each song, then use filtering so only songs with a special tag is shown.
So, if you like, you can have “alphabetical folders” by adding all songs to a relevant tag of your choosing (for instance, songs beginning with a or b to the tag “A – B”, etc). Then just choose the A – B tag when you want to display those songs.
Another benefit of this is that you can add more tags to one song. So, in addition to an alphabetical sorting, you could additionally tag the songs you plan to play during a specific performance (“Green Dragon”, “Spring Concert” or whatever else). That way you won’t need to copy song lyrics or poems between folders if you want all those in one place.
Please note that there is a new version of Poetical out, v1.1. You can get it here: http://www.linawillow.org/home/plugins-2/poetical/
Thanks very much, Miss Lina ;-) These filters are the way forward!
Thanks for this! I’ll let you know how we get along :)
An astonishing master piece !
But please … (I know, i’m french, upcoming ranting …)
/poetical à ressort
I just wouldn’t mind, given the Lotro exe was accent friendly, but it’s not.
‘Common u Québec dudes…
Once in a while, how about -not- translating ‘literally’ ?
Use your brain …
Pop-up window for spring-window, really ?
I reallly do have the finest respect for our ‘cousins’ from Québec,
But this is ridiculous.
It all go somewhere …
(Et quand bien même, j’ai bien conscience du temps nécessaire à franciser un programme. Mais Poétical à ressort, à quel moment ça ne vous interpelle pas ?)
See, there was some rant … ;)
Awesome stuff anyhow…
‘It all go -Boink!- somewhere …’ (Edit)
Feedback is always welcome. Right now, though, I am not sure if the purpose of the rant is to:
a) complain about the use of accents in commands
b) complain about the translation
c) complain about Quebec cousins
However, if you have actual suggestions for improvements, so that things can be better/more useful all around in future versions, I am sure Simbo would love to hear that too *winks*. Not least since there will likely be a version 1.2 coming up in a few weeks or so. Now is a good time to suggest specific improvements, be it for functionality, translations, commands or similar.
Hullo!
Poetical is actually coded to allow the command “/poetical popout” too in the French client, although it is not documented. I shall change this to be the main command in v1.2, and also change the main button to “pop-out”.
But if you do have any more specific instances where the translation can be improved, please let me know!
