Fer those who stay, but also fer those who leave. Just remember that being a hobbit is a state of mind, no matter which game yer play.
Best sung to the Blackmore’s Night lovely version of Barbara Allen, this was written for the Songburrow Strollers performance during January’s Winterstock concert on Landroval. The slow start leads to a rousing chorus at the end, and it is one of few songs I have added bagpipes to. It has quickly become a favourite among them Brandy Badgers too, and is a good one ter play at the end of a lively inn night. Nine hobbits playing this one together makes it loud!
Them lyrics are below the video. Oh, and should yer want to look at more of me songs, have a look in me songbook.
Blackmore’s Night: Barbara AllenGrand Shire Life Song
Come gather round and hear our song
Come gather round the fire
Let us share a meal and some biscuits too
For the life is grand in the Shire
Our rolling fields are lush with life
Home to all the food we require
Seven meals a day, sometimes even more
For the life is grand in the Shire
Longbottom Leaf and Southern Star
The weed we all admire
Stuff in in yer pipe, let them smoke rings fly
For the life is grand in the Shire
Our inns are loud with lively songs
The dance and drink inspire
Lads and lasses hug as the night grows old
For the life is grand in the Shire
Some hobbits fear the years ahead
Say the times are dire
Share yer joy with them, make their minds at ease
For the life is grand in the Shire
Come Boffin, Bolger, Grubb and Took
Let’s set yer hearts afire
Don’t be shy tonight, sing with all yer might
For the life is grand in the Shire
Come gather round and hear our song
Come gather round the fire
Let us share a meal and some biscuits too
For the life is grand in the Shire
