Once again, the LOTRO community puts in a lot of effort to help children. Read more about it, and see how yer can donate and help out yerself!
Extra Life 2013
Turbine employees and some LOTRO players have joined Team Turbine to support this year’s Extra Life, which raises money for sick kids through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Extra Life was originally a 24-hour marathon of gaming on an autumnal Saturday, but it has now evolved into several different efforts in the months before November 2nd.
Each of Team Turbine members have chosen a local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital to support. At the hospitals, thousands of children are treated each year, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. These kids are facing scary stuff like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and injuries from accidents to name just a few, and by donating to the causes, yer can all help out. Just check the different efforts on Team Turbine’s page and see how yer can do some good.
A few special shoutouts:
- Rick “Sapience” Heaton is well on the way through his challenge goals. Once the $5,000 goal is reached, all donors of the minimum amount ($5) qualify for an exclusive in-game LOTRO in-game and forum title, “Hero of the Small folk”.
- Miss Whiteberry from Laurelin has set up the Tales of Arda donation lottery with some lovely LOTRO-related rewards.
Not that yer need rewards to donate, yer know this is a good cause!
Fellowship Walk 2013
The Fellowship Walk is an online fundraising event for Child’s Play Charity, an organization providing toys and games to sick kids in hospitals. In previous years, A Casual Stroll to Mordor organized this event, but they are unable to do so this year. Instead, the staff of LOTRO Players picks up this tradition and asks yer all to join in.
The event is a virtual walk inside Lord of the Rings Online, with the aim to walk in-game from Bag-End all the way to Rivendell, following the path of Frodo and his fellowship. The event will take place from September 23rd, 2013 (the departure date of the original fellowship) until October 24th, 2013 (when Frodo woke up in Imladris), and the organizers hopes to raise at least $5000 through donations and charity auctions on the way.
Perhaps we can hope for a special in-game title for participants here too? Anyways, yer should hurry to read more about the event and how yer can contribute on LOTRO Players!
