Although me ma says being a bard is no true profession, it sure is hard work. Wandering around, learning songs, writing some yerself, always having the lute ready fer a performance. I love it, though. And here is a song about it!
One of the very first songs I wrote near two years back, this is best sung to Spirit of the Sea by them favourites Blackmore’s Night. The melody line in the midi I used fer me ABC is a little bit different than the lovely Candice’s singing, so me verses don’t match the video performance all the time. Still, this is one of the songs I love ter play the most, often late at night in Michel Delving.
Songs and Dances From The Past
I wander all across the Shire
Looking for the tunes of old
The songs and dances from our past
I write down all the ones I know
All of our hamlets have their own songs
With local stories, tales and names
But as you travel through our lands
You find the music is the same
Life goes on and hobbits come and go
The years they pass and seasons change
But our music stays the same
Songs and dances from the past
A wizened gaffer tends his ale
His body aches and yearns for rest
But when I ask him what he hums
He smiles at me and sings his best
The songs you whisper to your children
The ones you sing as work begins
As day gives way to dusk and darkness
You sing them loudly at the inns
A merry tune of Tookland fiddlers
A bouncy dance that makes hearts race
A mournful ditty from the Greenfields
A waltz for young lovers to embrace
Life goes on and hobbits come and go
The years they pass and seasons change
But our music stays the same
Songs and dances from the past
They are what bind us all together
They give us hope when wild things roam
They ease our life when times are tough
They tell us of our home sweet home
So I wander all across the Shire
I stop and hail you as you pass
I play you all the ones I know
The songs and dances from the past
The songs and dances from the past
Songs and dances from the past
Songs and dances from the past
Quite wonderful; I think this the best you’ve ever done :)
@Keligamer Thanks! It is certainly a personal favourite, I think this is the first tune where I more or less threw away the original song lyrics and wrote me own.
How’s yer own Blackmore’s project coming along?
@linawillow We are almost ready. Strangely it’s lyrics that we are thinking about now – original ones, rewrites like yours or not bother. Or a mix of course!
@Keligamer Feel free ter use any of me own Blackmore-ish lyrics if they are suitable. Although them may not be thematically what yer are looking for *giggles*
@linawillow Ha, we don’t even know what thematically means! We’re just going to play a concert unlike your fine Blackmore event.
