Green Dragon Friday has always been about arts, especially the performing kind. So naturally, we just need us an anniversary arts competition! And here’s how yer can enter!
Categories
There are two categories in the 2012 Arts Competition. The theme for all entries has to be either The Green Dragon inn or Green Dragon Friday.
Literary Arts
This category accepts entries in the following format:
- Short stories
- Poems
- Song lyrics (based on known songs)
Format restrictions:
- Entries have to be in the English language
- All entries need to have a title, with a maximum of 20 words
- Short stories have to be a minimum of 250 words, and can be up to 1000 words long (excluding the title)
- Song lyrics have to be your own creation (so don’t just change a few words in your favourite song). Include the name of the song you use as the melody basis for your lyrics.
A select few entries in the Literary Arts category may be offered the chance of being performed during the main party on April 27th.
Visual Arts
This category accepts entries in the following format

Rules
In addition to the theme and format restrictions outlined in the category descriptions, these are the rules for the competition.
Who can enter
The competition is open to players with hobbit characters on the Laurelin server. If you don’t have one yet, just roll up one before entering!
Please include the name of your hobbit character when sending in your entry. Should you have more than one hobbit character, just choose the one you want to enter with. Multiple entries from different alts are not allowed.
Each contestant can send two entries to the competition. It is up to you if you want one in each category, or if you want to enter both in the same category.
How to enter
The Grand Green Dragon Arts Competition runs until Saturday April 21st 11:59PM GMT+1. Entries received later than this won’t be accepted.
Entries have to be sent by email, with a header text of “GDF Competition”, to
Publication and copyright
By entering, you agree that your entries can be published on this website. Published entries will be credited to your hobbit character name. linawillow.org reserves the right to not publish your entries.
All entries must be original and created and/or owned exclusively by the player submitting them.
Please also remember that LOTRO carries a Teen rating, so keep the content of your entries within the general content boundaries of that rating.
Winners and prizes
Winners will be announced during the main party on April 27th.
A jury will choose two winners: One in the Literary Arts category, and one in the Visual Arts category. Each winner receives 15 Gold Pieces plus assorted in-game goods. They will also as be awarded the title of GDF Artist (not an in-game one, sadly) and likely get honorable mentions in the Bramblebury Gazette.
In addition, a few more entries may be singled out for both praise and prizes as well.
The jury’s decisions are final and not open for discussion.
We are also looking at the possibility of opening a popular vote, to crown the hobbits’ popular choice. Stay tuned for more information on that!
If there are few entries, it is possible that the categories will be merged and only one winner is chosen.
